Climbing at the "Cinzanino" is a unique experience. It is
situated in a splendid position on the shores of Lake Maggiore,
with breathtaking views and exposed to the warming rays of the sun which
produces spectacular sunsets and unforgettable sensations and memories. You
climb on rockfaces, drystone walls, the pier structures of a bridge, on
cliffs that rise sheer from the lake to a height of 50 metres. Climbing can
be also done on huge artificial panels both day and night thanks to a highly
efficient lighting system. More than ninety stretches lined with ropes from the
simplest to the most challenging and which cater for every possible style,
from adherence to vertical rockfaces, including a section catering specifically
for children, is the ideal "gym" for everyone. Everyone from experts to beginners,
from families to mountain climbing schools or climbers who are just passing through,
will find free climbing facilities that are complete and safe and open to everyone.
There is also a small bar providing food and refreshments, a picnic area, and the chance
to book the services of qualified instructors for those who wish to learn the art
of climbing without risks.
While reminding everyone of the importance of respecting the simple rules
set out in the list of REGULATIONS to be observed when using the climbing area,
we hope that everyone will enjoy to the full the magic atmosphere of the Cinzanino. If
you still haven't tried climbing, now is your chance to try this sport, taking advantage
of facilities which have been designed to cater in particular for newcomers to this healthy,
safe and free activity, which is guaranteed to prove, from the very first contact with "the vertical dimension",
a rewarding experience. You will discover a new world inhabited by ordinary people who, in choosing to climb,
find a way to express themselves and to raise themselves above the ground just enough to feel special.
Maccagno is a well-known resort situated in a wonderful position on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore just north of Luino. It offers a complete range of facilities which include numerous hotels and restaurants, two lakeside campsites with bathing beaches and a sailing school, well-equipped sports grounds and a wide range of cultural facilities including a Gallery of Modern Art and an auditorium for lectures and concerts. Maccagno is 100 km from Milan and can be easily reached from Lugano (30 km), Ponte Tresa (15 km) or from Varese (40 km) passing through Valganna. It is very close to the Swiss border at Zenna and hence to the area surrounding Ascona and Locarno. It is also possible to arrive by train (the Milan-Gallarate-Luino-Bellinzona line) and the railway station is only a few minutes walk from the climbing area. The Cinzanino is to be found to the north of the village on the road to Zenna above the marina and it can be seen from the lake-front where there are plenty of parking areas only a few minutes walk away. The Cinzanino offers a picnic area and a small bar with toilet facilities. Night-time flood-lighting has to be booked in advance.
